Destination & International Funds

Scholarships offered by foreign governments and universities (the biggest, most realistic source for an undergraduate), and an honest note on the famous international schemes that are, in fact, postgraduate only.

Foreign-government and institution scholarships (undergraduate, realistic)

These are attached to a country or a university and are the main funded route for a school leaver. Full details are on each card in the Destination Explorer.

Sudan, state and embassy scholarships

Some destinations fund foreign students through their embassies or ministries (for example Sudan's Ministry of Higher Education scholarships, when operating). These come and go with the political situation, so verify current status and safety before applying.

The famous international schemes: read the fine print

These are postgraduate, not for a school leaver. The Commonwealth Scholarships, Chevening, Erasmus Mundus, the Aga Khan Foundation and Fulbright all fund Master's and PhD study, not a first degree. Keep them in mind for later, after your Bachelor's.
SchemeLevelNote for Malaysians
Islamic Development Bank (IsDB)Undergrad (SPMC) & postgradThe undergraduate SPMC targets Muslim minorities in non-member countries; Malaysia is a member country, so Malaysians are generally not eligible. Member-country schemes lean postgraduate and science.
Commonwealth ScholarshipsPostgraduateMaster's/PhD in the UK. For later study.
CheveningPostgraduateUK Master's. For later study.
Erasmus MundusPostgraduateEU joint Master's. For later study.
Aga Khan FoundationPostgraduateNeed-based Master's/PhD. For later study.

Bottom line: as an undergraduate, put your energy into the destination scholarships above, stacked with a Malaysian portable fund. Save the famous names for your Master's.
